    Chief Nurse Officer (CNO)

    The California Rehab Institute services have been designed for patients who need a longer rehabilitation hospitalization for their recovery. We are currently seeking a Chief Nurse Officer (CNO) to join our team.

     

    California Rehab Institute is a 138 bed inpatient acute rehab hospital that opened in July 2016 and has been growing for the past 2 years.  

     

    Responsibilities

    The Chief Nurse Officer (CNO) establishes the standards and policies for the California Rehabilitation Institute of Nursing according to regulatory requirements and best practices. The CNO participates in setting the vision and direction for California Rehab Institute, and participates in strategic planning, budgeting and staffing models for nursing. The CNO provides guidance, mentoring and support to the Nurse Managers. The CNO provides leadership for the shared governance model in the Department of Nursing and is the nursing leader in any activities related to regulatory compliance. The CNO is the designated Patient Safety Officer. Oversees quality program outcomes and infection control functions for Cal Rehab. The CNO sits on the Executive board and is part of the Executive team.

     

     

    Specific Duties:

     

    • Selects qualified candidates who fit the culture and have the most potential to contribute to accomplishment of established objectives.
    • Ensures that direct reports have received upon hire and continue to receive throughout employment the training, information and support to accomplish departmental objectives and meet job requirements.
    • Provides regular and accurate performance feedback to direct reports with focus on results, skill expansion, process improvement and learning.
    • Ensures success of department operations through building employee engagement, effective talent assessment, continual learning and development, cross-training and succession planning for all hospitals.
    • Identifies and initiates own professional growth through continued learning, self-study and involvement in professional activities and organizations for all hospitals.
    • Participates as a member of Senior Management in overseeing the operations of the Institute, planning both short and long term goals, establishing budgets and fiscal monitoring and assuring delivery of services in accordance with standards as well as the standards of all state, regulatory and licensing agencies for all hospitals.
    • Acts as the Nurse Executive and chairs the Nurse Executive Team that establishes nursing standards of care, policies, scope of practice and regulatory compliance. Oversees the development and implementation of Nursing Services that are responsive to patient needs and are universal for all of our Rehabilitation Hospitals.
    • Acts as the Patient Safety Officer for the organization and serves as chair of the Patient Safety Committee for all hospitals.
    • Assures that standards of practice and clinical policies and procedures, scope of practice, job descriptions and orientation programs are responsive to patient needs and are compliant with regulatory standards established by the MO Board of Nursing, MO DOHSS, Joint Commission and CARF 
    • Oversees the nursing staff at and ensures the practice is within regulatory guidelines as well as the policies and practices of the Institute. Whenever practice concerns arise, has the authority and responsibility to counsel and/or terminate nursing employees, working in collaboration with Human Resources and the policies of the Institute.
    • Oversees the nursing acuity system for the organization and prepares the nursing budgets in collaboration with the campus Directors of Nursing. In establishing the nursing budget, identifies necessary resources and works with senior management throughout the budgetary processes to assure the proper allocation of resources to delivery high quality nursing care.
    • Represents nursing at inter-disciplinary, inter-campus and medical staff committees speaking on behalf of the Department of Nursing in any related decision making.
    • Participates in performance improvement committees and initiatives, ensuring the design and implementation of PI initiatives that will improve nursing services related to the provision of care, continuum of care, patient safety, medication management, wound management and other related standards of care. Identifies opportunities to improve patient outcomes and provides regular opportunities for staff to participate in PI activities. Communicates PI findings to all staff.
    • Collaborates with the Medical Directors to assure high quality patient outcomes and to identify any opportunities to improve clinical outcomes in the delivery of nursing and medical care.
    • Works closely with the Director of Rehabilitation to assure that the delivery of care and services at the Bridgeton Hospital are coordinated and provide every opportunity to collaborate toward improved patient outcomes and the integration of the program model of care.
    • Assures that nursing care delivery is based on research-based evidence wherever possible, and that best practices are pursued to assure high quality nursing care is delivered to every patient.
    • Participates in bringing the practice of rehabilitation nursing to the larger nursing community through presentations, publications, outreach and participation on councils and committees in support of rehabilitation nursing.

     

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education & Experience (Including Licenses)

    • BSN required. MSN or equivalent Masters in Healthcare preferred.
    • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse required.
    • CRRN required if eligible.
    • Minimum of five or more years progressive experience in senior nursing management role required.
