Nursing Home Administrator (NHA)



At  Penn State Hershey Rehabilitation Hospital our services have been designed for patients who need a longer rehabilitation hospitalization for their recovery. We are currently seeking a Nursing Home Administrator to join our team.



Position Summary

Organizes and directs overall operations of the 22-bed Transitional Care Unit in order to provide excellent care and optimum quality of life to patients by coordinating all departments to achieve those same goals. Implements and manages systems in order to adhere to and maintain facility/corporate policies and procedures, federal guidelines, state regulations and local ordinances and laws.


Specific Duties

  • Ensures that policies and procedures are established to maintain all regulatory requirements to include: planning, developing, organizing, implementing and directing the day to day functions of the facility to provide the highest quality of care, working closely with the management team.
  • Prepares budgets and allocates funds based on studies of costs. Reviews and approves departmental budget estimates. Assists in the development of departmental and Unit budgets.
  • Meets with Hospital directors to ensure that Transitional Care Unit operations support the objectives and comply with the policies and procedures of the Hospital as needed. Approves all proposed, appropriate departmental policy changes.
  • Prepares reports and participates in special projects for the CEO as requested. Attends meetings of the Governing Board as assigned.
  • Develops short and long term goals and operating budgets for the Transitional Care Unit, based upon Hospital wide goals and objectives. Directs and manages department operations within established guidelines.
  • Establishes staffing levels in accordance with Federal, PA DOH and Joint Commission standards and patient care standards of the hospital based on census and acuity.
  • Develops, in collaboration with Therapy and Nursing Departments, objectives, standards, policies, procedures and quality improvement activities for the Transitional Care Unit.
  • Develops programs to promote recruitment, orientation, retention and continuing education of Unit staff. Responsible for hiring, evaluating, disciplinary action and termination, when indicated, based on performance in accordance with company policies.
  • Promotes collaboration among departments to promote coordinated delivery of patient care in accordance with the regulatory standards of all clinical services.


Minimum Education & Experience (Including Licenses)


  1. Five years of administrative experience in a healthcare facility.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Business or Healthcare Administration, or Nursing; and fulfillment of Nursing Home Administrator requirements.
  3. Current Nursing Home Administrator’s  (NHA) License in PA, or hold a NHA from another state, and eligible for licensure in PA in the immediate future.
