The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing general mechanical and preventative tasks.  The Maintenance Mechanic inspects, services, repairs and overhauls hospital equipment as directed by the Director of Plant Operations.


As the Patient Services Mechanic, you will be responsible for providing maintenance, and repair activities related to patient and public areas within the hospital. This may include preventative maintenance, carpentry, painting, repair work, electrical duties, HVAC and patient equipment repairs /checks. Required is a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of two to three years of maintenance experience with knowledge of electrical equipment, plumbing, HVAC, preventative maintenance, carpentry, painting, locks, and job safety is required. Vocational school in a technical field and hospital maintenance experience is preferred.

Additional Data

Installs all new equipment and systems as assigned.
Insures installation and operation complies with all manufacturer’s specifications and with all applicable codes, regulations and the Hospital’s safety policies.
Inspects and completes repairs as documented in the maintenance management software system a regular basis.
Tests emergency generators and equipment as directed.
On a regular basis inspects Hospital plumbing, including faucets, toilets and showers and makes repairs as necessary.
On a regular basis inspects water softener levels and adds salt as needed.
On a regular basis inspects Hospital finishes and makes repairs to ceiling tiles, floors, walls, etc.
Contacts vendors for warranty compliance issues and receives proposals (price information) for all non-warranty projects.
Coordinates/Inspects projects to ensure they are meeting quality standards, are in an approved time frame, and comply with city/state codes as well as The Joint Commission (TJC)
Maintains adequate shop stock, tools, and work area.
Performs painting and carpentry work as assigned.
Repairs and maintains HVAC equipment.
Performs electrical work under the supervision of the Director.  Assures that all electrical tests are fully documented and that records are kept current.
Requisitions outside materials as needed.
Performs snow removal and salting operations on walkways, driveways, and parking lots as needed.
Participates in a twenty-four hour/seven day a week mechanic on-call schedule.  
Adheres to Select Infection Control policy and procedures.
Assists outside contractors as directed.
Performs other duties as requested.
