Responsibilities

The Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapist assists patient recovery after neurological injury or illness through providing assessment-based therapeutic interventions to restore cognitive function, address interest based and replace maladaptive behaviors through behavioral management.

 

  • Conducts comprehensive initial assessment within scope of practice of assigned patients following NTR guidelines for timeliness and completeness. Incorporates appropriate discipline specific standardized tests, NTR Interest Inventory, NTR Neuro Functional Assessment , and NTR Functional Needs assessment to identify cognitive, mental, emotional, behavioral strengths and limitations.
  • Contributes to the plan of care by developing long term and short term goals addressing the appropriate domain area(s) to maximize patient's functional independence and meet their expected outcome. Identifies patient strengths, impairments and interests within the plan of care. Collaborates with the transdisciplinary team to determine the patient expected outcome for both home and the community including predicted supervision required and predicted assistance required and within the expected timeframe.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions within scope of practice with patients and families/care giver in accordance with the plan of care. Provides formal written and verbal feedback to patients regarding progress toward goals and provides support or encouragement to address issues or barriers to help patients improve functional independence.
  • Participates in goal directed community integration activities. Educates neuro rehab coaches to follow through on directed transfer of patient learned skills and recommended activities, required assistance and supervision, structure and stimuli into the evenings and on the weekends as needed.
  • Incorporates formal neuropsychological test results into the plan of care, therapy tasks and behavioral management plans.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association required.
  • Current State Driver's License in good standing required
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master degree and current licensure or certification in a clinical discipline as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor or Applied Behavior Analyst preferred.
  • One or more years of experience in a neuro transitional rehabilitation environment preferred; experience with acquired brain injury and spinal cord injury population preferred.
