Position: Neuropsychologist

Location: Harrisburg, PA

 

 

Our Neuro Transitional Center provides a unique, comfortable environment designed to feel like home. It gives patients with physical, behavioral and cognitive impairments access to comprehensive therapy in multiple settings. Specialized therapists help transitional patients regain their independent living skills — with the goal of safely functioning in their home and community.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conducts neuropsychological evaluations, provides psychological counseling, cognitive rehabilitation therapy, education and crisis intervention to patients and families. Provides recommendations and consultations to the transdisciplinary team to assist in the development of functional activities based upon patient neuropsychological results, strengths and impairments.
  • Identifies appropriate tests and conducts neuropsychological evaluations with acquired brain injury or spinal cord injury patients. Identifies strengths and impairments across a multitude of brain functions such a intelligence, attention, sensory motor, visual, language, memory etc. according to patient need
  • Analyzes neuropsychological testing data leading to a diagnostic impression, prepares written neuropsychological reports and delivers oral feedback to the patient and family as appropriate.
  • Provides timely neuropsychological feedback to the transdisciplinary team. Lead collaborative discussions regarding the identification and development of appropriate functional activities based upon area of the brain damaged, and evidence based practice. Identify impairments and strengths to facilitate development of the plan of care and achievement of the expected outcome.
  • Responsible for an appropriate caseload providing counseling, education, cognitive rehabilitation therapy, treatment floor coverage. Conducts patient, family, group and individual sessions which may include addressing crisis or substance misuse intervention. Develops new activities according to patient need and alters or provides guidance to the transdisciplinary team to ensure treatment is consistent with ongoing research, progress and patient need.
  • Primarily responsible for the development of long and short term goals within the social/behavior domain. Provides input into other domains considering neuropsychological and behavioral needs to meet expected outcomes.
  • Adheres to discipline specific State Practice Act and other regulatory agencies. Maintains professional licensure in good standing and completes all state mandated continuing education requirements. Performs in an ethical manner in accordance with discipline specific professional code of conduct
  • Actively participates in team conferences and family conferences, collaborating with the transdisciplinary team to identify, plan and educate on opportunities to overcome barriers and patient successes. Receives feedback from family regarding goals, progress and meaningfulness.
  • Ongoing participation in discharge planning to facilitate a safe discharge home. Identifies the time frame needed and completes family training including the completion of an home evaluation prior to discharge. Collaborates with the transdisciplinary team to recommend discharge services and resources.
  • Occasionally transports patients on community outings.
  • Performs other duties as requested

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree and licensure in Psychology required.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association required.
  • Current State Driver's License in good standing required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board Certification in Neuropsychology or Rehabilitation Psychology or special training in neuropsychology or rehabilitation psychology preferred.
  • Two years of experience working in a neuro-rehabilitation environment preferred; experience with brain injury population preferred.
