Position: HVAC Mechanic
Location: 1199 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ 07052
Schedule:
Full-Time, 8:00AM - 4:00PM

 

Compensation: $27 - $36/Hour (Based on Experience)

*On Call Availability Required*

Responsibilities

An HVAC Mechanic installs, maintains and repairs all refrigeration, cooling, air conditioning and other assigned systems and equipment. Ensures compliance within applicable codes, regulations and hospital safety policies.

  • Installs all new equipment and systems as assigned. Insures installation and operation complies with all manufacturer’s specifications and with all applicable codes, regulations and hospital safety policies.
  • Carries out routine and specific assignments to insure that the physical plant and assigned equipment are in safe operating condition and in compliance with applicable hospital policies and with regulatory and/or accrediting codes and specifications, including:
    a. Daily inspects and completes repairs as documented in the maintenance request log.
    b. Tests emergency generators and equipment as directed.
    c. Daily inspects hospital plumbing, including faucets, toilets and showers and makes repairs as necessary.
    d. Daily inspects water softener levels and adds salt as needed.
    e. Daily inspects hospital finishes and makes repairs to ceiling tiles, floors, walls, etc.
  • Requisitions outside materials necessary for installation, maintenance or repair of equipment/systems.
  • Assists with the duties of the other maintenance employees within the scope of appropriate licensure.
  • Performs all scheduled and emergency repairs on assigned equipment. Notifies supervisor if services are required.
  • Establishes and implements a preventative maintenance schedule for area of assigned responsibility.
  • Establishes and maintains accurate records of equipment function and repairs. Maintains appropriate instruction manuals, blueprints and other such material.
  • Performs snow removal and salting operations on walkways, driveways, and parking lots.
  • Participates in a twenty-four hour/seven day a week mechanic on-call schedule.
  • Adheres to hospital Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • Assists outside contractors as directed.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma from a trade or vocational school in a related area is required
  • EPA section 608 certification required
  • Current and valid state Driver’s License required

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous mechanical experience in a hospital environment preferred
  • Current Black Seal license preferred (unless dictated as otherwise by state - six-month option as a condition of employment)
