The Senior Systems Engineer – Microsoft Focus is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of enterprise-level Microsoft infrastructure solutions. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of IT systems that support core organizational functions. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and Azure, and will lead initiatives to modernize and optimize the IT environment. This position requires a proactive problem-solver with strong technical acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments to deliver high-quality IT services.

 

Responsibilities

 

 

  • Collaborate with IS, IT, and business partners to provide recommendations towards maturing and evolving the overall technology roadmap, including software development, vendor applications, integration, platforms, and systems.
  • Assess feasibility and ramifications of new requirements and design appropriate solutions or recommend alternative approaches when necessary.
  • Serve as a technical SME for architecture, design, development, implementation, operationalization, and interface decisions related to Microsoft platforms.
  • Design operational processes to lead solution configuration, versioning, and environment release management for our Microsoft platforms.
  • Review solutions produced by application and technology teams and owners for feasibility, appropriateness, and impact.
  • Interpret technical documents and contribute to test plans, including review of functional specifications for system changes and improvements.
  • Identify and drive resolution of technical risks in all phases of delivery work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • 7+ years’ experience.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills a must. Ability to read, write, and speak in a professional manner.
  • Possesses strong continuous improvement, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor others.
  • Must possess an appropriate sense of urgency, responsibility, promptness, and professionalism.
  • Able to work extended hours or weekends as needed and respond to urgent needs during off-hours periods. Open to occasional travel.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and adapt to changing business priorities.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Strong expertise in Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) administration.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and File Services.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Exchange and/or Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Experience with Azure (IaaS, PaaS, AD Connect, Azure AD, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Intune.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting for automation and task management.
  • Experience with Hyper-V and/or VMware.
  • Understanding of hybrid cloud environments and cloud migration strategies.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO, HIPAA) and how Microsoft tools support them.
  • Healthcare experience a plus.
