Together with Saint Louis University, SSM Health Physical Therapy offers a 12-month neurologic physical therapy residency program designed to advance licensed physical therapists in their neurologic knowledge, skills and attributes. We accept external applicants and internal applicants (current employees of SSM Health Physical Therapy). Our mission is that, through shared traditions of serving humanity and enhancing lives through quality healthcare, we graduate physical therapists that embody the ideals of excellence in leadership, reflection, and compassion for evidence based clinical practice in neurologic physical therapy.

 

The program start date is August 4, 2025. Resident physical therapists will be primarily placed at SSM Health Physical Therapy Day Institute, a specialized outpatient rehabilitation program designed for individuals recovering from a traumatic injury or illness. Additional rotations and experiences will include in-patient rehabilitation, acute care, outpatient/vestibular and neurotransitional center. 

 

Strong applicants will demonstrate the following:

  • A commitment to lifelong learning including the pursuit of Board Certification in Neurologic Physical Therapy
  • Professional interests include serving the uninsured or underinsured in an urban environment
  • A desire to develop as an instructor for an entry level DPT program
  • A history of clinical practice or clinical education experience(s) in the neurologic setting (minimum of 10 weeks)
  • Strong fundamental skills in the application of examination and treatment procedures 
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills 

 

This is a full-time, paid position with benefits.

 

Responsibilities

The resident participates in clinical practice, multiple weekly structured educational experiences, mentored patient care, teaching in Saint Louis University’s Program in Physical Therapy, physician shadowing, and creation of a scholarly product.

Qualifications

Recent graduates of APTA credentialed physical therapy programs are eligible to apply as well as physical therapists that are new to the field of orthopedics and seek one on one mentoring. A current and valid Missouri licensure (or eligibility for Missouri licensure as a Physical Therapist) and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
