Increased Pay Rate: $33.64 - $49.98 

**$5,000 Sign-on bonus**

 

 

At California Rehabilitation Institute our services have been designed for patients who need a longer rehabilitation hospitalization for their recovery. We are currently seeking a Recreational Therapist to join our team.

Responsibilities

 

Position Summary

Plans and implements appropriate recreation activities for patients in accordance with guidelines set by the organization, hospital and the profession. Responsible for provision of therapeutic recreation intervention for an assigned caseload. Ensures all patients are oriented to recreation therapy and provides hospital wide leisure, social and divergent programs. Serves as an educator to patients on community resources.

 

Duties

  • Orients all new admissions to the therapeutic recreational services, activities and programs. Provides information in both written and verbal formats with respect to leisure activities, daily schedule, community resources, safety and spiritual resources. 
  • Identifies and evaluates patient recreational needs and develops therapeutic programs to meet patient needs in accordance with medical restrictions, patient interests and abilities. Provides individual and group therapies specific to therapeutic recreation as well as group treatments that involve other disciplines to meet patient goals. 
  • Works with patients to promote and develop new skills and interests and to adapt previous interests. Is effectively able to assess the usefulness of therapeutic techniques and practices and modify or adapts accordingly. Provides therapeutic and innovative activities to insure positive patient outcomes. 
  • Plans special events for the patients and encourages patients’ participation. Provides spiritual and holiday programs for patients. Communicates with manager regarding needed supplies for daily and special events. 
  • Allows for continuity of patient services and seamless preparation for discharge by becoming involved in the discharge process for each patient as needed and as time permits. Involvement may include increase awareness and accessibility of community resources including recreation. 
  • Demonstrates flexibility in schedule to accommodate patient requests and interests. Communicates schedule to supervisor, patient and hospital personnel and carries full patient caseload, ensuring management of patient schedule. 
  • Completes medical record documentation in a clear, concise, accurate and timely manner in compliance with state & federal guidelines and in accordance with the Hospital's policies and procedures. Ensures care is provided under valid physician orders and as indicated and necessary for clinical care of the patient. Develops comprehensive goals for patient treatment to maximize patient outcomes, as needed. 
  • Demonstrates team building and active participation in departmental and hospital functions in order to promote an efficient and positive work environment. 
  • Participates in student, volunteer and chaplain program as assigned and appropriate, providing a positive learning environment for students with appropriate supervision, development of learning objectives and completion of student evaluations. 
  • Actively creates an individualized professional development plan with clinical management. Identifies and initiates own professional growth, actively pursuing professional development through continuing education, self study and involvement in professional activities and organizations. Applies learned information in order to meet the strategic objectives of the organization. 
  • Actively participates in patient and professional advocacy efforts that may include, lobbying activities, health fairs, community level events, professional memberships, fundraising / charitable activities. 
  • Adheres to State Practice Act and other regulatory agencies. Performs in an ethical manner in accordance with professional code of conduct. 
  • Performs other duties as requested. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Therapeutic Recreation required.
  • Current national certification from NCTRC as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or eligible to take exam required.

POETS are completed as part of the onboarding process-to be completed before an employee’s first day of work.
